2012 Racing Season Set for Chad Finley Racing with Eyes on the JEGS/CRA Championship

DeWitt, Michigan (Tuesday, January 17th, 2012): As the calendar turned over from 2011 to 2012, Chad Finley Racing never even considered an off-season; it just wasn’t in the cards! As soon as the final race of 2011 was over at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Indiana back in October, the CFR Team was already hard at work preparing for an ambitious 2012 campaign.

As the 2011 season officially came to an end with the Champion Racing Association (CRA) Awards Banquet on January 13th, the 19-year-old Finley was honored not only for his third place finish in the inaugural season within the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM Performance Parts, Finley was awarded the 2011 JEGS/CRA Sportsman of the Year award. Now Finley and the CFR team have some more exciting news.

CFR, based in DeWitt, Michigan is very happy to announce a pair of solid partnerships beginning with Kawkawlin, Michigan businessman, Mike Staszak of XLT Engineering. Together they plan an all-out assault on the 2012 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM Performance Parts Championship. In addition, Finley also plans on running select events within the ARCA/CRA Super Series as well as making limited appearances behind the wheel of an Outlaw bodied Super Late Model at special events throughout the Midwest.

“I am very proud of all of my guys at CFR. We built this race team from the ground up in a short amount of time. They have proved themselves time and time again to be winners,” An appreciative Jeff Finley stated. “It’s my goal to award them the wins they deserve for their hard work and dedication. Being at BKR (Brad Keselowski Racing) for that short stint opened my eyes and taught me what I needed to do to build a winning team. I feel we should have found victory lane a few times in 2011, but they got away because of bad luck.”

“Now with Mike (Staszak) coming on board, I believe he will be the final piece to the puzzle. We will be able to do more testing which I think hurt us some last year.” Finley continued. “Chad and I talked a lot over this past season and this off season on things we could do that would benefit us most and at the end of the day it was testing.” He said.

Staszak added; “I met the Finley’s at an ASA Late Model Series race a few years back. Chad impressed me at that point. Then we went to the JEGS/CRA race at Dixie last year and he ran second and I was impressed yet again.” He explained. “I got to talking with his Dad (Jeff Finley) and how things were going for his career. Then after we talked, I felt I could help them some. So I got to talking with Chas (Howe) at Howe Racing Enterprises well as others about them and everyone had nothing but good things to say about them and their hard work and dedication.”

He then continued; “XLT Engineering is proud to become associated with them and look forward to helping them achieve their goals. There goals are pretty simple and it is to work hard and win races. That was very nice to hear and again I am going to help them with that.” Staszak ended.

Staszak is a part-time driver himself and will make select appearances in JEGS/CRA as well as a number of event at near-by Auto City Speedway in Clio, Michigan in the tracks weekly Super Stocks division. Similar to Pro Late Models around the country, this division utilizes the Template body / Crate motor packaged used in JEGS/CRA.

In addition, CFR also is very proud to announce a continuing working relationship with Howe Racing Enterprises based out of Beaverton, Michigan. “There was an opportunity for us to switch chassis builders. But I felt that with where our program was and how much (Crew Chief) Jimmy D. Smith and all the guys had learned and progressed over the year, we should just stay at home with Howe Racing Enterprises.” Finley added. “The guys all agreed and Chas (Howe) has been a big help to us every step of the way all year and it will continue on in 2012.”

“I have known Jeff (Finley) for many years and I don’t know of anyone more dedicated to racing both as a racer and a father,” Offered Chas Howe, President of Howe Racing Enterprises. “The Finley family has been tremendous advocates for Howe Racing and it is great to see another generation continuing this with Chad (Finley).”

Howe then added; “Chad has proven that he can run up front and given the opportunity I believe he is capable of contending for the win in any event. He ran very well last season considering that he was working with a new team and a limited budget. I am expecting an even better year for Chad this season with Mike (Staszak) coming on board.” Howe ended.

While still in the off-season, the 19-year-old (who turns 20 on March 17th) is entered in the Champion Spark Plugs “Search for a Champion” contest. Finley is entered in the “Asphalt” category. Voting is on-going and continues up to February 5th. He also racked up an impressive nine top 10 finishes in the 11 series events.

Third Place at Winchester & Third Place Finish in the Final 2011 JEGS/CRA/GM Points for Chad Finley

DeWitt, MI (October 17, 2011) – 19-year-old Chad Finley ended the 2011 racing season with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM Performance Parts at the series’ 2011 season finale, which was held during the 40th annual Winchester 400 weekend at the legendary ½ (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Indiana.

The 11th and final race for JEGS/CRA/GM will be the W&M Manufacturing / Pier-Mac 100 Plastics Presented by JEGS.com highlighted the Saturday portion of the three-day weekend under the lights in Eastern Indiana. Winchester was also the site of Finley’s hard crash back on August 20th during the Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com. So a return trip to the high-banks was in store for the Chad Finley Racing (CFR) Team and he was more than eager to return to the famed high-banks with hopes of earning a little redemption in the process.

After Qualifying 14th out of the 30-car field, Finley would have his work cut out for him and from the drop of the green flag, the DeWitt, Michigan driver wasted no time working his way to the front of the field. In just five laps, Finley had already cracked the top 10 and by lap 10 was up to seventh. By the ¼ mark of the 100-lap main, Finley had worked his way into the top five and a lap later he would pass two more cars to appear on the podium in third.

“I thought it would take us longer to get to the front then it did, but the car was so good on the low line that we just blasted up through there. It was pretty exciting getting up there so quickly.” Stated the Great Lakes State driver. Already sitting in third, Finley would bide his time and wait for the 3/4s mark of the race before pressing the issue. What wasn’t expected though was that the remainder of the event would go caution free.

Eventual race winner, Travis Braden and eventual runner-up finisher, Trent Snyder would build up a good lead on Finley and in the end, the DeWitt, Michigan driver would unfortunately run out of time in trying to reel in the two leaders and would stay in third although he did make up over half the distance he had trailed the two leaders at the lap 75 mark.

“The way the cautions kept flying early in the race, I thought we’d just ride for a bit. Wrong again on that one.” He laughed. “I was coming back up there, but the lapped traffic was racing each other so hard I really had to be cautious. There at the end it was better to ride those last 10 or 15 laps then to get caught up on what was going on in front me.”

“It was good to leave Winchester with another podium finish though.” He continued. “We worked on the car all weekend in race trim. Really just trying to fine tune it. We lacked a little bit of speed in qualifying, but (Crew Chief) Jimmy D. Smith and all the boys at CFR gave me another great racecar. We were really consistent this year and I’m proud of my team for that.”

Finley then added; “We just didn’t qualify as well as we needed to overall and that along with our bad luck is the only thing that stopped us from having a shot at the championship. I’m so proud of the effort from my team though, it felt good to run up front and have chances to win. We just came up a little bit short.”

Finley will finish third in the Final 2011 JEGS/CRA/GM points standings with five top five finishes including a season high of a second place showing coming twice with the most recent runner-up at Lucas Oil Raceway in Clermont, Indiana on October 2nd as well as at Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan back on June 17th. His two other top five’s were third place finishes at Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus, Ohio back on May 28th and his most recent podium showing at Owosso Speedway in Ovid, Michigan on September 3rd. Overall, he has racked up eight top 10 finishes in 10 starts.

The #42 Howe Racing Enterprises template ride with a Ford Fusion body and a crate engine from Phil Harper Motorsports carried sponsorship throughout the 2011 racing season from; AutoParts2020.com, as well as Rain Eater Wiper Blades, Auto Value / Bumper to Bumper Parts Stores & Certified Service Centers, the Airlift Company, Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil, NorthsideTowing.net, Nalett Trucking, and M.P.H. Promotions.

The 2011 racing season is tentatively over for CFR. Although if enough funding is made available to the team, Finley and crew will make the trip down to Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida on Thursday-Saturday, December 1-3rd for the Snowflake 100, which is part of the prestigious 44th annual Snowball Derby Weekend down in Western Florida.

“It would be awesome to go there. That race has been on our radar. If we could get a little bit of help I know we could go and be completive.” He offered. “We’ll have to see if we can find some help for that race. We have a lot to offer a marketing partner if we should get the chance.” He ended.
